Dresses made for a London fashion show held on the 19th of February 2012
“The Two Katherines” – Furnishing Fashion Fusion at London Fashion Week.
Kathryn Thompson furnishing fabric designer at The Silk Gallery, teamed up with Catherine Embleton, costume and fashion designer to produce an eclectic collection of designer cocktail wear to be featured at London Fashion Week opening to Richie Rich, American Designer to the stars. The Collection by “The Two Katherines” was conceived in spring 2011 when the two designers met to explore the novel idea of furnishing fabrics inspiring the fashion industry!
“The Two Katherines” discussed the apparent growing influence of fashion in interior design. There is an increasing synergy between what people wear and their surroundings. In fact the world of interior design has become more and more fashion focused over the last decade. “The Two Katherines” have succeeded in taking the personality, fabrics and history of furnishing fabrics to create an elegant, sophisticated range of cocktail wear.
“The Two Katherines” have found it an amazing and inspiring experience designing this collection. The difficult parts have been finding shapes that work well with the fabrics. The great part is seeing how the fabrics lead the design, not just in shape, but in the style that helps bring out the personality of the material. The designs truly come from the character of the fabrics and the personality of the material.
Kathryn Thompson
“When people choose a furnishing fabric they pick something they feel very comfortable with because it is with them for longer than one night! Furnishing fabrics clearly define the buyers personality, style and taste, more so than the more frivolous fashion based purchase. We have therefore created a timeless feel to our fashion range using my experience of creating designs and weaves for long term use in the home. “
Catherine Embleton
Catherine Embleton spent three years studying in Paris. On her return to the UK she sought out Kathryn Thompson at the www.thesilkgallery.com, a UK fabric design house with a reputation for producing lavish material. “In my costume making experience I always feel a need to find fabrics, styles and shapes to help convey a person’s personality and when I met Kathryn Thompson I realised there is no better place to look for inspiration than in a buyers home. “
